Ravens on three-game winning streak after sweeping Concordia

OTTAWA (Sep.11.2016) –

The Carleton Ravens took both ends of a weekend set with the Concordia Stingers on Sunday to win their third straight, scoring eight runs in each of their games.

The Stingers fought back late in both Sunday games after digging themselves into a hole, losing 8-6 and 8-7 but it wasn’t enough to pull even.

In Game One Concordia fell behind by five runs in the third and couldn’t recover despite a late rally sparked by Roberto Zapata and Anthony Marandola off Ravens reliever Troy Clark.

In his second appearance rookie pitcher Alex Lajeunesse looked solid on the way to his first CCBA win. He allowed three runs over six innings. He struck out five, walked two and surrendered four hits leaving the game with an impressive 2.33 ERA.

Sam Belisle-Speinger took the loss for the Stingers, lasting five innings, walking six and allowing five runs.

Despite the late game surge, Carleton held the lead from the third inning on when they scored five runs on a two-run double by Goddard, a sacrifice fly by Mike Heffer, and two singles.

Game Two saw the Stingers score two in the final frame to close the affair to a one-run game but fall short once again 8-7. The see-saw battle saw four lead changes but Carleton pulled out the win thanks to a strong fourth inning when the Ravens scored on another RBI single by league-leading hitter Ethan Nodwell (who is now batting .538), off Dan Connerty, scoring Jordan Harcourt.

But the offensive stand-out of the game had to be Dominic Plaschy who went three-for-three including three RBIs and a home run.

The Ravens next play the University of Ottawa Gee Gees this Wednesday night at RCGT Stadium for the second of their four match-ups this season.
