Ravens walk-off Gee Gees 4-3

OTTAWA (Sep.21.2016) –

It was a wild finish to hard fought game at Kinsmen Park last night as the Carleton Ravens edged the University of Ottawa Gee Gees 4-3 on a fortuitous walk-off wild pitch.

Carleton starter Alex Lajeunesse (1-1, 4.20 ERA, 20Ks in 18.1 IP) continued to look strong in his rookie season pitching six scoreless innings and was on his way to a 2-0 win until the Gee Gees finally got to him in the top of the seventh.

After getting Comfort to ground out meekly, Lajeunesse gave up a rally starting walk to Lindgren, and a double by Ryan Malyk to allow the Gee Gees within striking distance. A squeeze bunt by Brad McKay scored Deschesne that capped off an inning where the Gee Gees put up three late runs to take the lead going into bottom of the seventh.

A quality at-bat by Eugenios Matos seemed to rattle Gee Gees hard-throwing closer Roberto Suppa who eventually walked Matos, allowed an infield bunt-hit by Manny Restrepo, balked to advance the runners and eventually threw a passed ball and a wild pitch. Pinch-runner Jordan Harcourt and Restrepo would score to seal the victory in a wild finish for the Ravens.

Troy Clark (1-0, 5.60 ERA, 7Ks in 5 IP), who put out the fire for the Ravens in the top the seventh, would get credited for the win. Heffer (.292, 3 RBIs) doubled and scored. But the player of the game for the Ravens had to be Eugenio Matos who walked twice and singled and reached base all three times including that key seventh-inning walk to start the come-back.
