OTTAWA (Sep.24.2016)-
The Carleton Ravens climbed above .500 in the CCBA Northern Division (6-5) on the back of another three game winning streak – their second three-game streak of the season. After beating the Gee Gees in a nail-biter on Wednesday, the Raven took both ends of a double-header against the Université de Montréal Carabins at Faulkner field on Saturday, 6-5 and 4-3. Both games saw the Carabins mount late comebacks, and both times Montréal fell just short.
In Game 1, the Carabins scored on a two-run single by Charlie Loignon in the sixth and a groundout by Félix Veilleux in the seventh to make it close against reliever Troy Clark (1-0, 6.00 ERA). Clark picked up the save despite surrendering two runs on three hits and two walks in two innings of work. Ethan Nodwell (.448, 7 RBIs) continues to hit at a Division leading pace collecting two extra-base hits, doubling in the first and third innings. Shawn Green had two RBIs and went one-for-three. Starter David Castillo (7.00 ERA) collected the win on five solid innings work allowing five hits and three earned runs.
In Game 2 Montréal again scored late on a two-run single by Charlie Loignon in the sixth and a groundout by Félix Veilleux in the seventh but couldn’t draw even against starter Mike Bannon (2-0, 2.06 ERA and 21Ks in 17 IP) who went the distance collecting a complete game victory for the Ravens. Bannon now ranks third in ERA and second in strikeouts in the Northern Division.
Ryan Burnside (.235, 4 RBIs) had a great day at the plate with a triple in the second and a double in the fourth. Dominic Plaschy (.269 4 RBIs and 2 HR) hit a solo homer to dead centre in the bottom of the first to spark the Ravens. Montréal’s Shawn Beaulieu went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. He homered in the second inning and singled in the seventh inning.
With the weekend victories the Ravens take sole possession of second place in the Northern Division behind the McGill Redmen.
