OTTAWA (Sep.6.2017) –
The Carleton University baseball preseason schedule came to a close last night as the Ravens came from behind to defeat crosstown prep-team Ottawa Nepean Canadians U18, a program that has contributed a number of top student-athletes to Carleton’s baseball club over the years.
The preseason schedule also included games against the Ottawa Knights U18, – another Ottawa baseball development program that has supplied players and coaches to the Ravens – as well as OUA baseball teams from Queens and York Universities.
The score ended 8-7 and with that result the Ravens finish their pre-season games with an impressive 7-1-1 record. The game also set a milestone not only for this upcoming season but for the program as a whole. This year the Ravens have expanded their preseason schedule and have enlarged their overall season to a planned 40+ games.
“The change is important because it signals our intent to have a full season of baseball beginning in September and running all the way to May” said President George Rigakos. “This is what the players wanted”.
Not only does the club hope that the additional games will prepare them for the CCBA university baseball playoffs and potentially a trip to the nationals in Fredericton, but the expanded schedule reflects the club’s desire to provide a full university baseball experience for Carleton students and future university ball players in Ontario.
“We took some important steps last season” said Coach Andre Robidoux. “The team did well against NCAA competition in the Spring.”
The Ravens take on the Ottawa GeeGees at RCGT stadium this Friday night at 7:30 PM to kick off their regular season schedule. Admission is free.
