OTTAWA (Sep.25.2017) –
The Carleton Ravens have been playing some of their best baseball in years, managing a 7-4 record for 2nd overall in the Northern Conference of the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association. Their overall record, which has included games versus OUA opponents and local U18 prep teams, has been even more impressive at 16-5-1 so far this season.
Much of that success is owed to the ongoing development of the program under coach Andre Robidoux and the interest the team is beginning to attract from baseball youth across the province.
“We still have a way to go but these guys can be proud of how they have played so far” said Robidoux.
The “O-train series” against cross-town rival University of Ottawa Gee Gees has been a one-sided affair as the Ravens have taken the first three games by scores of 12-1, 9-3 and 16-6.
The Gee Gees have struggled to win this season as the team undergoes a rebuilding phase after the departure of long-time coach Matti Emery.
Rookie Gee Gees baseball coach Andrew Cockburn isn’t worried. “We’re excited as a new group of players have made their mark” he said. “We continue to work towards developing Ottawa baseball”.
“You can never count them out” added team President George Rigakos, “they’re a young team.”
The final game of the series is being hosted by the 2016 Can-am winners the Ottawa Champions who are providing all the amenities of a professional baseball experience at RCGT Stadium.
According to Rigakos “It’s a first rate organization in a first-rate facility. We are very pleased about this partnership”.
First pitch is at 7:30pm this Wednesday night at RCGT Stadium, 300 Coventry Road and admission is free.
