OTTAWA (Jun-19-2019) – The Carleton University Ravens baseball team will be competing in the 2019 OUA provincial championship tournament this October.
“It’s a significant move for us” said team President George Rigakos “but we think it’s time for the program.”
The Ravens finished 12-4 in regular season play and lost a close Semi-final in the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association World Series here in Ottawa. In 2017, the Ravens were national finalists.
The move to the OUA, which was coordinated alongside cross-town rival University of Ottawa, is part of a wider initiative to consolidate university baseball in Canada.
It is unclear at this point, however, whether Carleton will continue to play against their traditional opponents in Quebec yet the team is committed to helping university baseball grow across Canada.
“If that means extra non-conference games, an integrated schedule, or something else” added Rigakos “we’re good with that. We want this to work for everybody.”
The Ravens baseball team has been busy in the off-season, replacing key graduating seniors with notable commitments with both local talent as well as from the US and outside the province. The team will begin its open try-outs for 2019 mid-August followed by a series of exhibition games before kicking off its inaugural season in the OUA.
