MONTREAL (Oct. 4. 2016) –
With only three games remaining in the regular season, second place in the Northern Division of the CCBA is still up for grabs. The Carleton Ravens split a weekend series with the Université de Montréal Carabins losing 4-0 in game one and rebounding to take the second game 10-2.
The Concordia Stingers beat the University of Ottawa Gee Gees 2-1 and 8-1 in both games of their own weekend double-header. As a result, Concordia University is now 9-6 on the regular season with one game remaining against Montréal, leaving them a half-game up on the Ravens who sit at 8-6 facing a weekend double-header against the first-place McGill Redmen.
The Ravens will have to take that double-header against McGill and Concordia will have to lose to the Carabins in order for Carleton to be assured of second place and home-field advantage in the first-round of the play-offs. In head-to-head play Concordia and Carleton have split the series 2-2 but the Stingers hold the edge in runs.
Home field has proven important to both teams. The Ravens are 6-2 at home but only 2-4 while visiting while the Stingers are 6-2 at home and 3-4 on the road.
The outcome of this final week’s results will determine home field advantage in the first round of the Northern Division playoffs and it is a mathematical certainty that Carleton will face Concordia. All that remains to be seen is who will host the first two games of the best of three series.
In the other Northern Division series, first place McGill (13-1) will host fourth place Université de Montréal (4-11) as the Otttawa Gee Gees (3-13) have been eliminated from contention.
