OTTAWA (Nov.1.2019)
We are pleased to announce that Daylon Courchene has been selected Head Coach of the Carleton University Ravens Baseball team. Daylon was named interim coach one month ago, taking over the reigns late in the Fall season. In a short time, he has already managed to distinguish himself by leading the Ravens to an OUA Silver medal finish in their first appearance at the provincial university baseball championship this October.
Courchene welcomed the opportunity adding that he was “super excited to continue to build on the success that the program has seen recently.”
Courchene, who has been finishing his degree in Political Science at Carleton University, has also been assisting with the team as a player/coach since the 2017 season. He has been involved in coaching competitive baseball with the Ottawa Knights organization for the last four years culminating in two championship seasons in the Fergie Jenkins Showcase League.
Daylon also managed Ontario’s Indigenous baseball team for the North American Indigenous games and has been involved with the Jr. Ravens baseball program.
“He’s going to make an exceptional head coach” said team President George Rigakos. “He has already demonstrated his ability to manage the team to success.”
“We can’t wait for Daylon to lead us and keep the momentum going” added senior LHP Curtis Lacelle.
Courchene inherits a relatively young squad and faces the challenge of finding replacements for graduating seniors that have made significant impacts on the program. His connections to local and provincial associations bodes well for the program.
